Buffalo Trace Gives the People What they Want with Third Release of Weller CYPB

Weller CYPB. Buffalo Trace.

For three years now, Buffalo Trace Distillery has given its fans voting rights to Craft Your Perfect Bourbon – and for the third year in a row, the expression now known as Weller CYPB has topped the list.

With the distillery’s interactive Craft Your Perfect Bourbon website, fans are given the opportunity to control mash bill, barreling, warehousing, aging, and proofing to create the whiskey they crave most. Buffalo Trace has seen a shocking consistency in what the people want – a wheated recipe bourbon, aged 8 years on the top floor of the rick house, and bottled between 90 and 99 proof.

And the jumps between these favorites and their runner up are notable. “There is nearly a 50,000 response difference between the wheated bourbon recipe and the second recipe preferred, Rye Mash #1,” says the distillery. “The data shows 23% of respondents would age their bourbon for eight years, compared to only 10% who would age their bourbon 23 years. About 73% of fans chose to age their perfect bourbon on the top floor compared to the middle or bottom floors, and nearly 48% of fans proofed their bourbon at 90-99.”

“Two years ago we were amazed to see the website data indicate such a strong preference amongst countless possibilities,” Senior Marketing Director Kris Comstock said in a press release this morning. “We took that feedback from 100,000 fans to heart. Now with more than 300,000 participants, it is wonderful to see an overwhelming majority of fans still prefer bourbon with the specifications of our Weller CYPB. We are happy to continue giving bourbon drinkers more of what they crave every year.”

The third release of Weller CYPB fits neatly in this data set, bottled at 95 proof and crafted with the same wheated recipe that bourbon lovers chase in all Weller and Van Winkle bottles. Like years past, it will be available this summer in very limited quantities for a suggested retail price of around $50.
